What is a SEO?

Hey guys. I’m Jeremy Ashburn with Push Leads. And, right now we’re just gonna ask ourselves some of the main questions that clients ask me throughout the year. So, the very first question is, what is SEO?

Defining SEO

So, SEO is essentially, is the process of making little inside tweaks and outside tweaks on your website, so that over time your website becomes more search engine and friendly to Google. Essentially, your website looks more streamlined and beautiful to Google.

Learn all about SEO with PushleadsAnd, these little inside tweaks could be changing different words around on your website, finding really common search phrases that people are looking for, and also making inside tweaks on the back end. Like, adding a site map and other technical things that we’ll do over time.

And what happens is, over time all these little inside tweaks add up along with outside tweaks, such as other websites linking towards you and other properties across the web with your name, address, and phone number. Those are called citations.

So, over time, all of these little inside tweaks and outside tweaks add up to where your website looks more beautiful at Google and you start moving up to the top of Google, and other search engines for common search phrases.

SEO Compared to Falling in Love

I kind of think of this whole process like falling in love with somebody. You go on a first date with somebody, and it’s like oh, I think you’re kind of cute or, I’m interested in you. And then over time, then you go on the second and third date. And maybe their buying you flowers, or taking you to the movies, or taking you out to dinner.

Learn all about SEOOr maybe over time, you’re doing more and more things, and over time, maybe after 10 or 15 dates, you’re like hey, I think I’m falling in love with this person. Well, SEO is very similar in the sense that you’re making these changes over time.

You’re doing all these little things, and Google begins to fall in love with your website because you’re doing things that Google loves. And essentially, Google sort of falls in love with you. I know it sounds kind of crazy, but it’s totally how it works.

You probably heard … We’ve probably all heard the expression that, it’s all the little things, right? When you’re falling in love it’s all the little things that somebody does, that makes you think wow, this person really loves me.

You bought them dinner, you took them out to a drive-in movie theater, whatever it is. And so, essentially SEO, getting back to what is SEO. SEO is making all these little inside tweaks and outside tweaks to your website over time so that Google then falls in love with you and you show up at the top of Google for common searches.

And, when you show at the top of Google for searches, then that begins to change your business, because more people can see you at the top of Google. They can call you, they can walk into your business, they can do a contact form submit on your website and, your business can start to grow.

Diane Holmes, Owner of 1-800 Water DamageSo, how well are we doing at increasing our client’s digital profitability? Last year (in 2015), we took on 1-800 Water Damage, a disaster restoration client, and started doing SEO work for them. After a few months, they starting getting many more phone calls and decided to check their internal phone records. When they did this, they realized that after 4 months of us doing SEO that they had experienced 40% more phone calls, year over year! Again, this was them checking their own internal numbers. When they looked closer at these phone call numbers, they realized that all of them were coming from our SEO. They were thrilled because they were experiencing almost double growth in just a Four month period. Fantastic.

Want to hear something even more incredible? Eight months into the SEO process, they checked their numbers again and discovered that they were getting 80% more phone calls, year over year. Same situation, all of the new growth was occurring via their website. How in the world had this happened? Our consist ant SEO work had turned their “normal” website into Aggressive Sales Machine! If you know anything about Google Analytics (Google’s free website traffic tracking tool), their website traffic, sessions, users, and pageviews tripled over a six month period.

Search Engine Optimization, or SEO, for short.

It really doesn’t matter how you say it…these words are very confusing to the normal business person. Sure, I could give you the long, technical definition, but it might just confuse you. For simplicity, let’s define SEO as “pushing websites to Google’s first page” without paying Google. At Pushleads, we use a variety of approved methods to gently push your website closer and closer to the top of Google. That’s it. Short and simple.

Our SEO process

Now that you know what SEO is, its time to learn our seo process. So, how do we “push websites to the top of Google”? Again, we’ll be doing things as simply as possible here.

  • Step 1 – Keyword Research – We research hundreds of search phrases to find the best search phrases for your website. When we bring on a new client, we usually research about 500 keywords and narrow that list down to the best 20-30 keywords.
  • Step 2 – Optimizing Your Site – After finding the best keywords, we then place them in the best places on your site to make your company show up on Google’s first page. This involves things like making changes to your website’s page titles, descriptions, and content on the pages.
  • Step 3 – Content Marketing – The last step involves arranging the content on your site so that everything flows to the pages that we want to show up on Google’s first page. After we do that, we use our team of writing professionals to write more relevant content about your company, as pages and blog posts. The links from these pages help to increase the ranking process.

SEO Pros and Cons

f course, nothing’s perfect. SEO, just like everything else, has its Pros and Cons.

  • More Traffic – As we continue with our SEO process, your website will move closer and closer and eventually show up on Google’s first page. Once this happens, your website will receive 5%, 10%, or maybe 30% more traffic than what it had before our process. As time continues to progress, your site will get more and more visitors and continue to grow.
  • Targeted Traffic – What’s better than having more traffic on your site? Targeted Traffic! As we continue with our SEO process, you’ll start seeing visitors come to your site from target search phrases. Once they land on your site, you’ll start seeing visitors interacting with your site, by doing things like calling you, emailing you, or submitting a contact form.
  • Improved Reputation – As more links, energy, and traffic flow to your site, it will gain a better reputation online. Once this really starts to happen, “things will snowball” and you’ll get more and more links and traffic to your site. As this happens, your site will continue to show up on Google’s first page for more keywords.

  • Takes Time – The organic SEO process usually takes 30, 60, or 90 days to move or “push” your website to Google’s first page for the keywords that we’ve chosen.
  • Isn’t an Exact Science – Your website will rank on Google’s first page within 30 days for some keywords, while others will take 90 days or longer. This is the “nature of the beast” and due in part to the way Google and other search engines work.
