0:00 Why Ecommerce Keyword Research Is Different
In this video, we’re breaking down the best keyword research tools for e -commerce and not for bloggers, not for content sites, for stores that need to find buyers, ARF’s leads for most retailers, Jungle Scout wins on Amazon, SM Rush dominates competitor tracking, Google keyword planner costs nothing and works fine to start. Let’s get into it. I’m Jeremy, and PushLeads is my company. The short version, I get online store owners choosing SEO research tools in front of the people already searching for them. I’ve been ranking local businesses on the first page of Google since 2007. In this one, we’re walking through, by the end, you’ll know exactly which one tool to buy first and which to skip.

0:44 Buyer Intent vs Search Volume
Here’s the split that changes everything. A shopper typing best wireless headphones under $100 is close to a purchase. Someone typing how headphones work is not same search volume, completely different outcome. Most general SEO tools treat both queries the same e -commerce tools, flag commercial intent. So you prioritize phrases that actually move product. A keyword with 50,000 monthly searches means nothing if those searches never buy. A keyword with 400 searches that pulls in ready to purchase shoppers is worth far more. Transactional queries convert, informational queries bounce, Google search console data confirms it. Click through rates and conversion rates vary wildly by intent. Intent beats volume every time.

1:32 What Buying Intent Actually Looks Like
So what does buying intent actually look like? Action words buy, cheap, discount, deal, evaluation words, review versus best. Those shoppers are one click from checkout. Specific model numbers and SKUs mean the shopper already knows what they want. And logistics modifiers like free shipping and in stock confirm purchase urgency. IRFs and SEMrush both label keywords by intent type automatically.

1:58 Scale and Category Page Strategy
Ecommerce keyword research also runs at a scale most content sites never touch. A store with 2,000 SKUs needs keyword data at the product level, the category level, and the site level all at once. Your category pages are usually your highest traffic pages. They need keywords that match how shoppers browse, not just how they search for single items. The platform you sell on changes how you implement keywords, not which keywords you target.

2:27 Ahrefs SEMrush and Jungle Scout Compared
Three tools, three different jobs. ARFs is the best all around Ecommerce platform, shopping result filters, a traffic value metric showing what advertisers spend to capture that keyword, and a content gap tool that surfaces what competitors rank for and you don’t. Jungle Scout pulls directly from Amazon’s ecosystem, Google volume and Amazon volume rarely match. And Jungle Scout knows the difference. SEMrush tracks competitor positions daily and shows you what they actually bid on in Google shopping. If they’re paying for a keyword,

it converts. Now, the free options, Google Keyword Planner costs nothing and pulls data straight from Google. Pay attention to the top of page bid column. High bids mean advertisers are making money from that keyword. Merchant words draws from over one billion actual shopping searches. It’s data skews toward buyers by default, so you don’t have to filter out informational noise. For stores under $5 ,000 a month in revenue, start free. Once you’re past that threshold, one ranked category page can generate more monthly revenue than a full year of subscription fees.

3:37 Six-Step Keyword Research Strategy
Here’s the six -step strategy. Start with category pages. They carry the most ranking authority. Work down to product pages for long -tail terms, never reverse that order. Run your top competitors through Site Explorer and find keywords they rank for that. You don’t prioritize their thin or poorly optimized pages. Those are your fastest wins, target long -tail buyer phrases, men’s wide -fit trail running shoes size 12, converts far better than running shoes, set up position tracking for 30 to 50 keywords, and watch movement within days of making changes. Then review Search Console Monthly, sort by high impressions and low clicks. Those are titles that need fixing, not strategies that need replacing.

4:23 Using GSC Before Buying Any Tool
Before spending anything on paid tools, run both free Google options together. Google Search Console shows what’s already working, impressions, clicks, average position, and click -through rate for every keyword triggering your pages. Google Keyword Planner shows what’s worth pursuing next. And here’s the fastest free win. Fixing page titles on high impression, low -click keywords improves click -through rate faster than most ranking improvements and costs you nothing.

4:53 Matching Page Messaging to Keyword Intent
This one matters. If you target cheap office chairs under $200, but your product page leads with premium positioning and buries the price, you’ll rank and bounce. The keyword set the expectation, the page has to deliver it. Consumer research shows shoppers abandon pages that don’t match the intent of the search term they used. Keyword research and page messaging are the same job. Tools give you data. What you do with it determines whether your store climbs or stays stuck. PushLeads works with e -commerce stores on keyword discovery, page mapping, and tracking. The full process. If your category pages aren’t ranking and your product pages aren’t converting from organic search, the fix starts with knowing where you stand.
