Key Takeaways

In July 2025, Rich’s AC in the Winter Garden and Orlando area moved from virtually no Google visibility to two terms on page one and five on page two, plus a 15% month-over-month increase in organic Google traffic. Technical changes to plugins, an SEO tool switch, and a steady stream of new content pages drove that growth. AI-sourced traffic is also showing up, though it currently appears as direct in analytics.

  • Rich’s AC now ranks two terms on Google page one and five terms on page two for competitive HVAC keywords in Winter Garden and Orlando.
  • Google Search Console shows roughly 11 clicks from 21,000 impressions, meaning there is significant room to improve click-through rates as rankings continue to rise.
  • Google Analytics confirmed 113 organic visitors this month versus 98 last month, a 15% gain, plus about 95 direct visits likely coming from AI assistants.
  • Switching from Yoast to Rank Math and replacing an outdated caching plugin with WP Rocket produced measurable technical improvements to the site.
  • New content targeting “AC not working,” “air conditioning troubleshooting,” emergency repair, and HVAC system comparison topics is the primary growth driver going forward.
  • AI traffic from tools like ChatGPT shows up as direct in most analytics platforms right now, making manual client feedback an important tracking method.
  • Top converting pages are the homepage and contact page, with AC installation Orlando picking up early traction that needs to be scaled.

Where Rich’s AC Stands After the First Months of SEO Work

Rich’s AC has moved from near-zero organic visibility to a measurable foothold on Google for competitive HVAC terms in the Winter Garden and greater Orlando market. Right now the site has two terms sitting on Google’s first page, specifically around AC replacement and AC installation company, and five more terms on page two including AC repair services, HVAC company near me, emergency AC, and HVAC companies near me. A handful of additional terms like AC repair near me and air conditioning repair are on page three, which means they are close to breaking into page two with continued work.

What matters most at this stage is understanding what those rankings actually mean in terms of real traffic and real leads. Google Search Console is showing about 11 clicks against roughly 21,000 impressions over the reporting period. That ratio tells me we have solid brand awareness building in the background. People are seeing Rich’s AC in results, but we need the pages ranking to move higher before the click volume follows. The homepage has pulled in 21 clicks and the contact page four, which is a healthy sign that the people who do visit are engaged enough to reach out. The AC installation Orlando page is also picking up early clicks, and that is a page we want to push harder.

Rich’s AC moved from near-zero visibility to two page-one rankings and a 15% organic traffic gain.

For HVAC businesses trying to understand how this kind of progress fits into a bigger picture, the fundamentals of HVAC ranking and local search have not changed. You build authority through content, technical health, and signals like reviews and citations, and rankings follow over months, not days.

What the Keyword Rankings Actually Mean for a Local HVAC Business

Having two keywords on Google’s first page and five on page two means Rich’s AC is now visible to real searchers in the Winter Garden and Orlando area, but the click volume will not scale until more of those terms break into the top five positions on page one. Page two rankings are valuable because they confirm Google sees the site as relevant. That relevance is the foundation every page-one result is built on.

Why are the page two rankings worth paying attention to right now?

Page two rankings matter because the content and authority signals that push a page from position 15 to position 8 are the same ones that eventually push it to position 3. Each new content piece and each technical improvement contributes to all the rankings simultaneously. When I look at the cluster of terms sitting on pages two and three for Rich’s AC, I see a group of pages that are close to a meaningful threshold. Terms like “AC repair near me” and “air conditioning repair” are high-intent searches made by people who need service today, not next week. Getting those into the top five is the near-term goal.

What does it mean when Google shows 21,000 impressions but only 11 clicks?

A high impression count with a low click count tells me that the pages are appearing in results but ranking too low or not matching user intent closely enough for people to choose them over a competitor. The average click-through rate on position ten of page one is around 2 to 3 percent. For results on page two or three it drops significantly. So 21,000 impressions with 11 clicks is actually consistent with where those rankings sit right now. As terms move up, clicks will increase without any change to the volume of searches. That is why improving existing ranking pages is just as important as publishing new ones.

Which keywords are closest to producing real phone calls?

Emergency AC and AC repair near me are the closest to producing direct phone calls because anyone searching those terms has an immediate problem. AC installation and AC replacement terms tend to bring in people who are planning, which often means a longer decision cycle but higher job values. Right now, the emergency and repair terms are on page two and three. Pushing those to page one, even to positions six through ten, will produce a noticeable uptick in inbound calls because of how urgent the search intent is.

The Content Strategy Driving Rankings Forward

The content being built for Rich’s AC focuses on problem-based and location-specific pages that answer real questions Florida homeowners type into Google when their air conditioning stops working. Topics like “why your AC is not working,” a complete Florida homeowner’s guide to air conditioning, emergency repair content, and HVAC system comparison articles are all in progress or recently published. These are not thin pages. They are written to be the most useful result available for each specific query.

Why does problem-based content work better than service pages alone?

Problem-based content works better because it captures people earlier in their search, before they have decided which company to call. A homeowner who types “air conditioning not working” is almost certainly going to need a service call. If Rich’s AC has the most useful page answering that question, the site earns both a ranking and the trust of that visitor before any competitor gets a chance. Service pages are still essential, but they only capture people who already know they want to hire someone. Problem pages capture people at the moment they realize they have a problem.

What content topics should a Florida HVAC company prioritize?

In a Florida market, the highest-priority content topics are emergency AC repair, AC not working troubleshooting, AC installation cost and process, HVAC maintenance guides for the humid climate, and comparison articles covering HVAC system types or brands. Florida’s heat makes air conditioning a year-round concern rather than a seasonal one, which means search volume for these topics stays relatively steady. Maintenance guides also tend to rank well because they attract homeowners before a breakdown happens, which positions the contractor as a trusted resource when service is eventually needed.

How does an HVAC comparison article help a local contractor rank?

Comparison articles, such as comparing HVAC system types, brands, or efficiency ratings, tend to attract links and shares from other sites because they are genuinely useful reference content. More importantly, they capture searchers who are in the research phase before a major purchase. For Rich’s AC, someone reading a comparison article about HVAC systems in Orlando is a strong future customer. That article gives the business a chance to be the trusted advisor throughout the research process, making it far more likely that person calls Rich when they are ready to buy.

Technical Changes That Made a Measurable Difference

Two specific technical changes produced the most immediate improvement to the site’s SEO performance. Switching from Yoast to Rank Math as the primary SEO plugin gave better control over on-page optimization, structured data, and content tracking. Replacing the old caching plugin with WP Rocket improved page load speed, which is a confirmed Google ranking factor and a significant influence on how long visitors stay on the site. Both changes were made because the old tools were not keeping pace with what the site needed.

Why switch from Yoast to Rank Math for SEO?

Rank Math offers more granular control over technical SEO elements in its free and paid tiers, including better schema markup options, more detailed keyword tracking per page, and cleaner integration with Google Search Console. For a local contractor site where each service page needs to be clearly structured for Google to understand what it covers, those extra controls matter. Yoast is a solid tool but Rank Math has pulled ahead in features relevant to local SEO, and the switch has reflected well in how the site’s pages are being indexed and evaluated.

What does WP Rocket do that a standard caching plugin does not?

WP Rocket handles a broader range of performance issues than most free caching plugins. It manages lazy loading of images, defers JavaScript that is not needed on initial page load, minifies CSS and HTML files, and sets up browser caching more aggressively. All of these contribute to faster page load times, which improves both user experience and Core Web Vitals scores. Google uses Core Web Vitals as a ranking signal, so a faster site has a structural advantage over slower competitors. After installing WP Rocket on Rich’s AC, page performance scores improved noticeably.

Why does the old plugin causing missed page tracking matter?

Two specific technical changes produced the most immediate improvement to the site’s SEO performance.

If a plugin is not properly registering new pages with the SEO tool’s sitemap or internal tracking system, those pages may not be submitted to Google efficiently or may not receive proper on-page optimization scores. That means content effort is being spent on pages that Google is slower to discover and evaluate. Switching to a plugin that correctly tracks every published page ensures that new content gets indexed promptly and that nothing falls through the cracks between the content team and what Google actually sees.

Understanding the Traffic Numbers in Google Analytics

Google Analytics showed 113 organic visitors from Google this month compared to 98 last month, a 15% increase. That growth is real and consistent with the ranking improvements visible in Search Console. Alongside that, about 95 visitors came in as direct traffic, and a meaningful portion of those are likely arriving from AI tools like ChatGPT, Perplexity, or Google’s AI Overviews rather than from someone typing the URL directly into their browser.

Why does AI traffic show up as direct in Google Analytics?

AI platforms like ChatGPT do not pass referral data back to a destination website the way a standard hyperlink does. When someone gets a recommendation from ChatGPT and then visits the website, the analytics platform has no referral source to record, so it logs the visit as direct. The same thing can happen with some AI Overview clicks in Google. This is an industry-wide tracking limitation right now. The most reliable way to confirm AI traffic is to ask clients directly whether they are hearing from customers who mention finding them through ChatGPT or similar tools.

What is the significance of traffic coming from Yelp, Facebook, and Bing?

Traffic from Yelp, Facebook, and Bing showing up in analytics means Rich’s AC has a presence across multiple channels, which is a healthy signal both for business visibility and for SEO. Bing referrals matter more than many local businesses realize because Bing powers several AI tools including Microsoft Copilot, so visibility there translates into AI citation opportunities as well. Yelp and Facebook traffic confirms that the business profiles on those platforms are active enough to drive real visitors. Each of those referral sources also contributes to brand recognition that makes Google more confident in ranking the site.

How should a small HVAC business interpret a 15% month-over-month traffic increase?

A 15% month-over-month increase in organic traffic is a meaningful gain at this stage of an SEO campaign. It is not explosive growth, but it is consistent upward movement that reflects real ranking improvements rather than a statistical fluke. At this point in the campaign, the expectation is steady compounding growth. The foundation is being built. When enough content pages reach page one and when the technical improvements fully take hold, growth rates tend to accelerate. A 15% monthly gain sustained over several months produces a dramatically different traffic picture by the end of the year.

How AI Tools Are Changing Local HVAC Lead Generation

AI assistants are actively recommending local contractors to homeowners who ask questions like “who is a good AC company near me in Orlando” or “what should I do if my AC stops working in Florida.” Those recommendations are sourcing information from the business’s website, its Google Business Profile, review platforms, and the overall credibility signals Google sees. For Rich’s AC, this means that the content being built and the technical improvements being made are serving double duty: they help Google rankings and they help AI tools find and cite the business.

What makes an HVAC company get recommended by ChatGPT or Perplexity?

AI tools pull recommendations from sources they have already indexed and trust. That typically means businesses with a strong, well-optimized website, clear information about service areas and specialties, consistent NAP (name, address, phone) data across the web, and positive reviews on multiple platforms. The more authoritatively a website covers HVAC topics relevant to a specific geography, the more likely it is to appear in AI responses. This is why the content strategy for Rich’s AC, covering specific Florida topics in depth, directly supports AI citation opportunities alongside traditional rankings.

How is tracking AI referral traffic different from tracking Google traffic?

Google traffic is trackable through UTM parameters, Search Console, and referral data in Analytics. AI traffic currently has no equivalent infrastructure for most platforms. ChatGPT does not send referral headers. Perplexity sometimes does but not consistently. Google’s AI Overviews sometimes pass data and sometimes do not. The practical approach right now is a combination of watching for unexplained direct traffic spikes, asking clients to note when customers mention AI tools, and monitoring whether branded search volume in Search Console increases, which often happens when AI tools make people aware of a business they then search for directly.

Should an HVAC company treat AI optimization differently from SEO?

At this stage the tactics overlap significantly. A well-optimized website with clear, authoritative content about local HVAC services ranks well on Google and also gets cited by AI tools. The differences that matter are in structured data markup, ensuring business information is consistent and machine-readable across the web, and making sure content answers specific questions in a clear, extractable format. GBP optimization in the AI era is one area where the overlap is especially direct, since Google’s own AI features pull heavily from Business Profile data.

The Role of Google Business Profile in This Campaign

Google Business Profile is one of the most direct levers for local visibility for an HVAC company, and it works in parallel with the website content and technical work described above. The profile controls what appears in the map pack, which is the set of three local businesses shown at the top of search results for location-based queries. For terms like “HVAC company near me” and “AC repair Winter Garden,” the map pack result often gets more clicks than the organic results below it, which makes the profile critically important to overall lead volume.

What should an HVAC company do to optimize its Google Business Profile?

Thorough Google Business Profile optimization for an HVAC contractor means ensuring every service is listed with a clear description, photos of real work are regularly added, the business description uses location-specific language, and the Q and A section is populated with common customer questions and answers. Posts should go out at least twice a month covering promotions, seasonal tips, or completed projects. Review responses need to be prompt and professional. Each of these elements signals to Google that the profile is actively managed and relevant to local searchers.

How do GBP reviews affect HVAC rankings?

Reviews are one of the strongest signals in local search ranking, both in terms of quantity and recency. A business with 50 reviews and a steady stream of new ones will consistently outrank a business with 200 old reviews and nothing recent. For Rich’s AC, building a process for consistently asking satisfied customers to leave a review is one of the highest-return activities available. It costs nothing beyond the ask, and it compounds over time. Responding to every review, positive or negative, also adds to the profile’s activity signals.

Can GBP posts help with AI tool recommendations?

Google Business Profile posts contribute to the data available to Google’s own AI systems, including the AI Overviews that appear at the top of search results. Keeping posts current and specific, mentioning service areas, seasonal issues like Florida humidity or summer heat loads, and specific services offered, gives AI systems more context to work with when generating local recommendations. It is a small individual signal but a meaningful cumulative one, especially combined with a well-optimized website and consistent review volume.

Pricing Strategy and Its Connection to Content

One area that comes up consistently with HVAC clients is the question of whether to include pricing information on the website. For Rich’s AC, having pages that address cost-related questions honestly, even without giving a fixed price, tends to rank well and attract serious buyers rather than tire-kickers. A Florida homeowner researching AC replacement costs is highly likely to convert into a real estimate request if they find a helpful, transparent page that explains what factors affect the price in their specific market.

Should an HVAC contractor put prices on their website?

Publishing price ranges rather than fixed prices tends to attract better-qualified leads. A page explaining that AC installation in Orlando typically runs between a certain range depending on unit size, home square footage, and existing ductwork gives a searcher enough information to know they are in the right ballpark, which filters out callers whose budgets are far off. It also helps the business owner when it comes to pricing HVAC jobs profitably, since content that sets accurate expectations reduces the friction in converting an estimate into a signed job.

What HVAC cost questions do Florida homeowners search for most?

In the Florida market, the most common cost-related searches are around AC replacement cost, central air installation price, HVAC tune-up cost, and emergency AC repair fees. Comparison searches, such as “mini split vs central air cost Florida,” also appear frequently because many older Florida homes lack ductwork. Building content that addresses each of these questions with specific context for the local climate and housing stock, rather than generic national figures, signals to Google that the page has real local expertise and tends to rank more easily against national aggregator sites.

How does cost-related content connect to phone calls?

Cost-related pages attract visitors who are actively planning a purchase or who have just experienced a problem and are trying to understand what a fix will cost. That intent level is very high. If the page answers their cost question helpfully and clearly presents Rich’s AC as the local expert to call, a portion of those visitors will contact the business directly. Adding a clear call to action on cost pages, such as an invitation to get a free estimate, closes the loop between information seeking and lead generation.

Frequently Asked Questions

How long does it take to see results from HVAC SEO in a market like Orlando?

In a competitive market like Orlando, most HVAC contractors start seeing measurable ranking movement within three to five months of consistent work. Meaningful traffic and lead volume typically takes six to twelve months to build. Rich’s AC moved two terms to page one and five to page two within the first few months, which is ahead of the typical pace. The timeline depends heavily on how much content is being produced, the technical health of the site, and how aggressively competitors are investing in their own SEO.

What is the difference between impressions and clicks in Google Search Console?

Impressions count every time a page appears in a search result, whether or not the user clicks on it. Clicks count only when someone actually visits the page from that result. A high impression count with low clicks, as Rich’s AC currently shows with 21,000 impressions and 11 clicks, indicates that pages are being seen but are not yet ranking high enough to attract consistent traffic. Moving rankings from page two to the top of page one is the primary way to convert impressions into clicks without changing anything else.

Why does direct traffic in Google Analytics sometimes represent AI referrals?

When a user gets a recommendation from an AI tool like ChatGPT or Perplexity and clicks through to a website, the AI platform generally does not send referral information along with the visit. Google Analytics has no source to record, so it defaults to labeling that visit as direct. This is a current limitation of how AI platforms handle outbound links. Until better tracking standards are adopted industry-wide, monitoring unexplained direct traffic spikes and asking clients about customer feedback is the most reliable way to estimate AI-generated visits.

Is WP Rocket worth the cost for a small HVAC contractor website?

For a small contractor site, WP Rocket is worth the annual fee because page speed affects both user experience and Google rankings. Slow pages lose visitors before they convert, and Google has confirmed page experience as a ranking signal. WP Rocket handles lazy loading, JavaScript deferral, file minification, and browser caching in one tool without requiring technical expertise to configure. The time saved troubleshooting individual performance issues and the ranking benefit from faster load times make it a practical investment for most service contractor sites.

Why should an HVAC company switch from Yoast to Rank Math?

Rank Math offers more detailed on-page SEO control, better schema markup options for local businesses, and cleaner built-in keyword tracking at the page level compared to Yoast in most tiers. For a local contractor site where each service page needs to clearly signal its geographic relevance and specific service type, those extra controls matter for rankings. The migration process between the two plugins is straightforward, and in practice Rank Math tends to give clearer recommendations for improving individual pages during content development.

How important are Yelp and Facebook to HVAC SEO?

Yelp and Facebook do not directly influence Google rankings, but they contribute to overall visibility and trust. Traffic from both platforms shows up in analytics and represents real leads who might not find the business through Google alone. Yelp in particular functions as its own local search engine for service businesses, and a strong Yelp profile can generate calls independently of the website. Facebook presence builds brand familiarity, which tends to increase direct searches for the business name, a signal Google uses to assess local authority.

What content should a Florida HVAC company publish first?

A Florida HVAC company should prioritize emergency AC repair pages and AC not working troubleshooting content first, because those capture the highest-intent searchers who need a contractor immediately. After that, AC installation and replacement cost pages attract high-value planned purchases. Maintenance guides and HVAC system comparison articles build long-term authority and attract links. All content should reference Florida-specific conditions like year-round heat, high humidity, and the prevalence of older housing without ductwork, since that specificity is what separates local expert content from generic national articles.

How can a small HVAC contractor track whether ChatGPT is sending them business?

Right now the most reliable tracking methods are informal. Ask new customers during the intake call how they found the business and note when they mention ChatGPT, Siri, or similar tools. Watch direct traffic in analytics for unexplained increases that do not correspond to a specific promotion or offline campaign. Monitor branded search volume in Google Search Console, since AI recommendations often prompt people to search for a business by name before visiting the site. Formal AI referral tracking tools are emerging but are not yet standardized.

What Rich’s AC Does Next to Keep the Momentum Going

The foundation is in place. Rankings are moving, traffic is growing, and the technical side of the site is in better shape than it was when we started. The next phase is about compounding what is already working. That means publishing more problem-based content targeting the emergency and troubleshooting keywords that are closest to page one, building out the AC installation and replacement pages with more depth and local specificity, and continuing to push for new reviews on Google and Yelp to strengthen the map pack presence.

On the AI side, I am going to keep learning how to track it better. Right now I am asking Rich to let me know whenever a customer mentions finding him through ChatGPT or another AI tool, because that human feedback loop is still the most reliable signal we have. As AI tracking tools mature, we will layer those in.

If you run an HVAC company or any home service business and you are watching competitors move up in local search while your rankings sit still, the gap is almost always a combination of content, technical health, and profile optimization working together.
