Why Agency Transparency With Clients Is Necessary

It's common for digital marketing to need better communication. Here's why you shouldn't wait for your clients to ask where their money is going.

It’s common for digital marketing to need better communication. Here’s why you shouldn’t wait for your clients to ask where their money is going.

First, I want to ensure that clients will never again ask, “Where is my money being spent?”

Being Transparent Makes You Stand Out

Poor communication was the biggest problem companies face when working with SEO agencies.

Some common issues people have with digital marketing companies include the following:

  • “I can never get through to anyone when I call.”
  • “They take forever to reply to my inquiries/messages.”
  • “Every time I meet with my project manager, a different person is assigned to the job.”
  • “They don’t give me information about what they are doing.”
  • “The agency wants more money when the results are not as good as expected.”
  • “The agency proposes many solutions, and most require extra spending, exceeding my monthly retainer.”
  • “There is no exclusivity! A competitor is also being aided by the firm I am paying.”

Many digital marketing agencies are affected by poor communication today. It reinforces the notion that digital marketers are unscrupulous charlatans selling intangible services that don’t guarantee results.

This article gives us all an opportunity to distinguish ourselves through excellent communication.

Consider that if a client has fired their previous provider and hired you, they may already be somewhat concerned about their previous services by coming into the relationship with you. Great digital marketing might not be enough in some instances, as some consumers are unfamiliar with the value of your services.

Keep clients informed about the outcomes of your strategy by communicating the what, when, and why. This will keep your clients engaged and understanding the value you provide.

It's Worth Putting In Extra Effort To Communicate With Clients

There are many benefits to establishing a healthy relationship with clients through communication, transparency, and customer service. In addition to conveying the value, you’re providing, frequent communication and honesty help establish trust.

When I started this business, I was interested in something other than joining the rat race and constantly chasing new clients. Instead, I aspired to establish strong associations with a small number of clients and offer them the finest possible service.

To avoid those awkward moments when my clients wonder where their money is going, I maintain an openly shared Google Document with each one. I list the tasks completed on their website/project daily in these documents. The client can check it any time for current information about their project.

Having a long-term, healthy relationship with most of my clients has been crucial to maintaining a successful business. I’ve recognized this deficiency in most digital marketers’ services. We’ve enjoyed excellent customer service by leveraging long-standing customer relationships and making our customers feel comfortable with our work.

The following benefits can be enjoyed as a result:

  • Build trust to keep and maintain long-term customers.
  • While digital marketing, especially SEO, requires time, you can create an immediate, positive impression with solid communication and customer service by providing excellent customer service and communicating well.
  • It is rare for a business to offer such high levels of communication, but it is comforting for clients and leads to high-quality referrals.
  • Long-term relationships can provide greater returns on investment.
  • Having good communication skills allows you to connect with potential clients more quickly. If you work with a potential client and provide poor customer service, the prospect will be gone quickly.
  • When clients see results and are willing to pay more, your value increases if you can communicate this concisely.
  • Excellent communication skills can give your company a leg up on the competition.
  • Being involved, engaged, and providing feedback/input can help strategies succeed.

Most SEO and digital marketing professionals prefer to spend their time putting their heads down and working on their tasks/deliverables. Keeping clients notified and updating Google Doc trackers can take a lot of time and do little to help your marketing strategy succeed.

Our company’s commitment to transparency and client service has allowed us to build long-term relationships with our clients, many of whom have been with us since our first year.

Having excellent communication allows me to express any concerns or successes with these clients in an open manner. Having a long leash is contingent on excellent communication.

For example, you’ve built a rapport with someone you’ve worked with over the years. For the sake of argument, let’s say an algorithm update hits them, and traffic declines. In that scenario, your client will accept your request to turn things around rather than seek a new provider.

Prioritize Client Communications

Digital marketing has a plethora of blunders resulting in client satisfaction. Numerous digital marketers are receiving money and need to provide a worthwhile return on investment.

Customer service improvements benefit your business, reputation, and client experience (and result in them). Setting you apart from competitors, communicating openly, and being transparent leads to happier clients and more sustained relationships. Do you need to take a moment to connect with your clients? If not, now is the time.
